What is a 3D Plantar scanner?
3D Plantar Scanner is a 3D foot scanner based on laser scanning and performs the foot scan in full/semi-weight and no-weight modes. In addition, 3D plantar scanner detects the foot arch type and height. 3d plantar scanner provides measurements of the exact dimensions of the longitudinal and transverse foot arch. Due to the precise modeling of the plantar, designing a custom orthotic insole with a 3D plantar scanner is very easy, has accurate dimensions, and no longer requires time-consuming measurements of the sole dimensions and detecting the foot arch type, as all this data is available in PayaTek 3D Plantar scanner software.
The ability to quickly scan a large number of clients in a short time helps save time. Because the 3D plantar scanner is portable, patients with mobility issues can be scanned while lying on the examination bed.
What is the difference between a 3D plantar scanner and an optical scanner?
Optical scanners present a digital foot image to detect the foot size. They typically use a 2D scanning mechanism similar to that found in text and paper scanners. The optical scanner is positioned within a frame with thick glass and captures an image of the foot sole with precise dimensions. These scanners do not have sensors or facilities for measuring foot arch height or anthropometric indicators. Although in some models of this device, imaging and changing the color of different parts of the foot sole may appear to measure pressure, such measurements are not scientifically accurate.
The 3D plantar scanner provides the real foot sole dimensions due to its precise 3D modeling. On the other hand, by layering the soles at standard heights and checking the area of the sole that is in contact with the ground, it automatically determines the arch type.
3D plantar scanner (PT-3D PLANTAR) is a simple and economical version of a 3D Foot Scanner that is optimized for insole design applications.
3D plantar scanner OUTPUT
PayaTek 3D plantar scanner generates a 3D model of the foot sole in STL/PLY format. This 3D model enables precise measurement of the longitudinal and transverse dimensions of the arch, heel width, and the angle of the toes. As a result of this data, a more accurate diagnosis of foot deformities is facilitated.
This scanner automatically detects the foot arch type, whether it’s flat, normal, or high.
The automatic measurements option provides data after each scan without the need for further assessments so you can save your time.
The 3D plantar model significantly increases your productivity in designing the most accurate, comfortable, and speedy insoles, providing the right support and cushioning for your clients’ feet.
In PT-Insole Design software, the 3D model is automatically applied to the insole.
3D plantar and 3D foot scan
Foot pressure scanners can’t determine the foot arch height since they only measure the pressure. Furthermore, some patients have foot abnormalities that cannot be detected using simple instruments such as pens, calipers, or rulers. In contrast, 3Dfoot scanners empower specialists to obtain accurate measurements of both the foot and plantar surface, while also factoring in the unique shapes of patients’ feet during the design and construction of insoles or other orthotic devices. As a result, this insole will be the most compatible with the patient’s feet.

Single foot or two feet scanning
We know that the most weight-bearing state in the gait cycle is related to the mid-stance phase when all the weight of the body is on one foot so, the exact dimensions of the plantar have special importance in this state. Consequently, when using a 3D plantar scanner, foot scanning requires simulating such a weight-bearing situation. Hence, each foot must be scanned separately to ensure precise measurements.
Where can we do a 3D foot scan?
The 3D foot scan accurately measures the physical dimensions of the plantar. It is used to measure longitudinal and transverse arch heights and toe angles and also allows for the diagnosis of heel deformities. This capability makes the device valuable assistance for orthopedic specialists, podiatrists, and corrective movement specialists.
